Wolves dealt personnel blow in the run up to midweek clash with Burnley

Wolves dealt midfield blow before Burnley clash

Neves to miss clash against Burnley

Wolves could be left reeling after the realization that highly influential midfielder Rúben Neves is set to miss their midweek clash against Burnley at the Molineux.

The Portuguese international received his fifth yellow card of the season in the first half against Norwich at Carrow Road earlier today and subsequently will begin his one-match suspension on Wednesday according to The Athletic’s Tim Spiers.

At the time of writing, Wolves remain level with the Canaries in a nil-nil affair as Dean Smith looks to keep Norwich on track and bag their third win on the spin after an abysmal start to the 2021-22 Premier League season.

Thus far, Wolves have not shown up as advertised either, as Smith’s outfit has nearly triple the chances by the 60th-minute mark despite being handily out possessed by Bruno Lage’s men, who have managed ~64% of the possession throughout.

Wolves sitting high on merit

Despite the departure of Nuno Espírito Santo, a man that brought considerable success to Wolves from the outset of their return to the Premier League, Bruno Lage has picked up the mantel from his Portuguese compatriot and gotten the club back on track after a disappointing 2020-21 campaign.

Before today’s potential result, Wolves sit sixth in the league regardless of their difficulties in front of goal (12 goals in 12 fixtures). But that comes as no surprise for a side that was hardly world-beaters in the final third under Espírito Santo.

The return of Raúl Jiménez is a healthy dose of fresh air as well, and the Mexican international star has proven decisive on many occasions both in seasons past and the current campaign. Could he pop up once again and stun his opponents today?
