The father of Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has, on Friday, provided a fresh insight into his son’s short-term future with the club.
Gunners woes
Elneny, 29, has of course endured a less than productive campaign to date.
After being afforded a regular starting berth by Mikel Arteta across 2020/21, to the tune of a respectable 17 Premier League starts, the Egyptian has since fallen majorly down the pecking order in the middle of the park at the Emirates.
Largely owing to the summer arrival of Sambi Lokonga, and return to fitness of Thomas Partey, Elneny has secured for himself just three league appearances this time round.

In turn, it should come as little surprise to hear of speculation linking the former Basel man with an imminent departure from north London beginning to mount.
In fact, just last week, word stemming from the Turkish media went as far as to suggest that Elneny was on the verge of sealing a free agent January switch to Super Lig giants Galatasaray.
‘Belief in him’
If the aforementioned latest comments on the part of the midfielder’s father are anything to go by, however, then such a development appears to have been all but ruled out.
Speaking in an interview with Al Hayat TV on Friday, as cited by football.london, Nasser Elneny was drawn on the claims that his son could see his Arsenal contract terminated over the coming weeks, to lay the foundations for a winter exit.
The father of the Gunners star, however, was quick to reject such a suggestion, assuring that Mikel Arteta remains a firm believer in his abilities:
‘Mohamed’s contract with Arsenal expires at the end of the season.’
‘The club does not intend to terminate his contract. His playing in the Liverpool match proves his coach’s belief in him and his abilities.’
When pressed on the speculation surrounding a return to Egypt with giants Al Ahly, meanwhile, Nasser Elneny was again quick to clarify the situation:
‘It is difficult for him to return to Egypt during this period. The reports that Al Ahly made a deal with him are completely false.’
