Real Madrid injury blow confirmed ahead of Sevilla showdown

Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid have been dealt a defensive injury blow ahead of the club’s meeting with Sevilla this weekend, according to reports.

Capital clash

Carlo Ancelotti’s men are set to return to action in a little less than 48 hours’ time.

In a crunch showdown amid the upper echelons of the La Liga table, Los Blancos will welcome high-flying Sevilla to the Bernabeu, eyeing all three points amid the club’s early-season title charge.

As things stand, Real sit top the pile in the Spanish top-flight, a solitary point clear of 2nd-placed Real Sociedad, and a further point above their upcoming opponents.

In their latest outing ahead of Sunday’s capital clash, Los Merengues, on Wednesday night, made short work of minnows Sheriff in the Champions League, courtesy of goals from all of David Alaba, Toni Kroos and Karim Benzema.

Alaba blow

But, in the process of booking their spot in the knockout rounds of European football’s most prestigious club competition, Ancelotti and co. were also dealt something of a blow.

In the aftermath of the clash, it was revealed that David Alaba, amongst the goals in Moldova, had been forced to sit out training owing to a knee issue.

The Austrian’s manager, for one, was quick to play down any fears surrounding a potentially lengthy absence, assuring that:

‘We don’t believe Alaba’s injury is going to be major.’

But, as alluded to above, if the latest word doing the rounds in the Spanish press on Friday is anything to go by, then Alaba, at the very least, looks set to sit out this weekend’s action.

As per a report from Marca, the summer arrival from Bayern Munich has suffered a ‘low-impact left knee sprain’, which looks altogether likely to rule him out of proceedings against Sevilla.

It remains to be seen whether Alaba misses any further fixtures, though.
