Arsenal’s January transfer priority confirmed

Revealed: The position Arsenal are determined to strengthen in the January window

Word stemming from the media over the last 24 hours has provided an insight into the latest transfer plans of Premier League giants Arsenal.

Liverpool lesson

The campaign to date has of course proven something of a mixed one on the red half of north London.

On the back of a dismal opening few weeks, which saw them glued to the foot of the Premier League table owing to a trio of successive defeats, the Gunners subsequently embarked on an altogether impressive 10-game unbeaten run across all competitions.

Such efforts have even seen Mikel Arteta’s men climb back into the thick of the battle for Champions League football in the English top-flight.

This past weekend, in the club’s first outing on the back of the international break, however, Arsenal were brought crashing firmly back down to earth.

A trip to Anfield to take on high-flying Liverpool ultimately saw Arteta and co. put to the sword by four goals to nil, in a timely reminder of the gap that remains between themselves and the true elite of English football.

‘An important striker’

In turn, it should not come as a huge surprise to hear that, over the days since, speculation has begun to mount surrounding the plans of those in a position of power at the Emirates when it comes to reinforcing the club’s playing squad.

And now, as alluded to above, an insight into precisely which area of the pitch the Gunners are hopeful of strengthening during the January transfer window has been provided.

The info comes courtesy of transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who, during an interview with The Arsenal Lounge, confirmed that a new striker is very much on the agenda in north London:

‘From what I’m told the priority for Arsenal, in (the) last days of the summer window and in January or next summer if it won’t be January is a striker.’

‘They want to sign an important striker, they know they need an important striker so the mission is to get one.’

Romano continued:

‘They were trying for Lautaro Martinez in the summer but it was really complicated to sign him, almost impossible.’

‘Then they were trying for Tammy Abraham, who was another option but then he joined Roma. They always wanted this kind of striker and they are working on this.’

‘I expect Arsenal to sign a new striker but I don’t know if they will be able to do it in January because the January transfer window is never easy.’
