It’s the most wonderful time of the year – awards season is beginning, and the Grammy nominations are in.
The ladies are smashing the nods for the 2022 awards show: Billie Eilish has scooped six nominations in total, including for record, album and song of the year, as well as pop performance of the year.
Olivia Rodrigo – who has blown minds this year bringing Gen Z heartbreak to life with unforgettable tunes like Good 4 U – has also been nominated for six awards, including for best new artist.
Her music videos have received serious recognition too, as the directors and producers of the Good 4 U music video have been nominated as well. We’re not shocked to be honest, seeing as how perfectly it encapsulates the true madness of high school heartbreak.
Another contender for best new artist is Arlo Parks, whose album Collapsed In Sunbeams also received a nomination for her best alternative music album. Viral rapper Doja Cat is also doing it for the girls with a whopping seven nominations, and Selena Gomez has received her first ever Grammy nomination this year for her Spanish-language EP Revelación.
R&B singer-songwriter HER has been nominated for eight awards, including nods within the R&B and contemporary Christian categories. Justin Bieber and Lil Nas X are also back on the awards season with a vengeance – both have nominations across best record, album and song of the year.
House of Gucci star Lady Gaga has received six nominations too, this time for her duet skills with Tony Bennett. Pianist and composer Jon Batiste received the most Grammy nominations with 10 nods, while Ed Sheeran is up for “song of the year” for his single Bad Habits.
How the Grammy nominations are different this year
Earlier this year, the “secret committees” – who ultimately made the final decision who got nominations – were eliminated, meaning that the 2022 Grammy awards are the first ones under which the nominations are meant to have been decided by members alone.
