Mikel Arteta provides Bukayo Saka update ahead of Arsenal’s meeting with Manchester United

Mikel Arteta has provided an update on Arsenal star Bukayo Saka ahead of the Gunners’ meeting with Manchester United.

Manchester United host Arsenal

At the slightly odd time of 8.15 on a Thursday, Arsenal travel to Old Trafford to take on a struggling Manchester United.

The Gunners come into the match having lost just one of their last 9 Premier League games, and knowing that a win would take them 8 points clear of their opponents after 14 games of the season in the race for European football next season.

United, meanwhile, will be looking for a repeat performance of their game with Chelsea on Sunday, where they earned a very credible draw at Stamford Bridge. Even without the currently sidelined Paul Pogba and Raphael Varane, United have a very strong squad.

Arsenal, however, are sweating on the fitness of one of their own.

Saka update issued

The only blemish from Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Newcastle United on Saturday lunchtime was an injury that forced Bukayo Saka off on the hour mark. Speaking after the game, Mikel Arteta revealed:

“It was an action where he said he felt something muscular. He wasn’t comfortable to continue.”

And now, ahead of the United clash, the Arsenal coach has issued a further update on Saka:

“I am hopeful but we don’t know. It’s a really short turnaround. The player has to be comfortable playing with a little injury.”

With the Englishman such a key member of Arsenal’s squad, rushing him back only for him to then be out for a longer period is not something the Gunners will want to happen. However, given Man United are expected to turn their season around now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has gone, this tie may be pretty important in Arsenal’s battle for a Champions League/Europa League place.
