Let it be known that Ariana Grande can simply do no wrong in our eyes. From releasing her first beauty line (which – predictably – we loved), to recreating that 13 Going On 30 dress, and manifesting her dream role as Glinda The Good Witch in upcoming movie Wicked.
And guess what? Her career isn’t the only thing Ariana is smashing. The multi-hyphenate has also taken several shots at the patriarchy, from clapping back at trolls who criticised her appearance to shading her ex-fiancé Pete Davidson after he made a sly dig at her on Saturday Night Live after their split.
Ariana Grande is a true girl’s girl – and we love her for that. In celebration of her empowering ethos (and swift takedowns), we’ve pulled together a list of all the greatest moments when she clapped back against misogyny:
When she criticised double standards in the music industry
Most of us recognise that it’s rarely appropriate to share our every waking thought with our favourite artists, especially if that thought consists of criticising the way they choose to dress.
However, it looks like one of Ariana’s fans didn’t get the memo, commenting on her Facebook (via Diply), “Ariana, all respect, but dangerous woman I loved but the trouble is that the video salts like a ****. Sorry for the rudeness, I only just said the truth.” Err, what?
Ariana – calm as ever – replied, “When will people stop being offended by women showing skin / expressing sexuality? men take their shirts off / express their sexuality on stage, in videos, on instagram, anywhere. they want to. all. the. time.”
She continued, “The double standard is so boring and exhausting. with all due respect, i think it’s time you got your head out of your ••••. Women can love their bodies too!”
When she shaded a fan for making sexist assumptions about one of her Instagram posts
If you’re a woman or feminine-presenting person (and you happen to be older than 21) you may well be familiar with the constant ~ interest ~ about whether or not you’re planning on having a baby anytime soon. Ariana, it seems, is no exception.
On one of Ari’s Instagram selfies, a fan pointed that there was a crib in the background, which must mean she’s having a baby, right? Wrong! The fan commented, “why is there a baby crib in the back tho?”
Ariana’s sarky response was legendary, commenting, “my secret child duh,” before clarifying, “that’s piggy smalls’ play pen in the background the red is to keep ha warm [sic]. OK then.
When she clapped back against the ‘man’s version’ of ‘thank u, next’
We know what you’re thinking: namely, ‘Who the hell asked for a man’s version of ‘thank u, next’?’ That didn’t stop IZZY filming his own version of the bop, adding in his lyrics such as:
