Reigning NWSL Defender of the Year Caprice Dydasco is headed to the Houston Dash.
NJ/NY Gotham FC traded the player to Houston, in exchange for $120,000 in allocation money and an additional $10,000 for every postseason game she plays, up to a maximum of $30,000.
“We are excited to have Caprice join us in Houston and are thrilled that she wants to be a part of this project,” Dash president Jessica O’Neill said.
“Her commitment to the vision of the Dash will be vital in our success. We are looking forward to the experience and leadership Caprice brings as we continue to push toward our first playoff appearance in club history.”
She departs Gotham FC after recording 71 appearances with the team. Dydasco originally arrived at the club, formerly known as Sky Blue FC in 2019, and signed a two-year contract in January.
She recorded 13 appearances this season, managing 29 clearances, eight blocks and seven interceptions.
“Caprice is an extremely talented player and an even better person,” Gotham FC general manager Yael Averbuch West said.
“She gave everything she had to this team and played a massive role in the transformation of our club. We are so thankful for her contributions and wish her nothing but success in Houston.”
She now joins the Houston Dash, as they sit second in the league with 28 points in 16 games and a record of 8W-4L-4D. They’ve gone undefeated since July 8.
