Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has this evening secured for himself a historic record, after finding the net in the club’s meeting with Sevilla.
Benz cancels out Mir
Carlo Ancelotti’s men are of course currently locked in action.
After making it five successive victories across all competitions courtesy of a dominant 3-0 downing of Sheriff in the Champions League in midweek, Los Blancos welcomed the aforementioned Sevilla to the Bernabeu, for a crunch clash.
The matchup marks an absolutely crucial one in the La Liga title race, with the two sides, ahead of kick-off, having been separated by just two points.
In turn, early in the 2nd-half of action in the Spanish capital, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to hear that Real and Sevilla are locked at a goal apiece.
The visitors opened the scoring inside the quarter of an hour mark, when the unmarked Rafa Mir nodded home a whipped corner from the left:

Ancelotti’s Real, though, didn’t take long to level things up, as Eder Militao’s pile-driver from distance was only touched onto the post, allowing Karim Benzema to steal in before slotting home on the rebound:

Henry surpassed
As outlined above, however, Benzema’s 16th goal of a scintillating start to the new season did not only prove significant from a collective perspective, in pulling Real level on Sunday.
In addition, it saw the veteran hitman secure for himself a remarkable record.
As confirmed online, Benzema has now scored 361 club goals to this point in his career.
This marks one more than Arsenal icon Thierry Henry managed during his playing days, making Benzema the highest-scoring Frenchman in the history of club football:
